Custody Transfer for Reliable Delivery in Delay Tolerant Networks

چکیده
We investigate the custody transfer mechanism proposed for enhancing reliability in delay-tolerant networks. This mechanism, which utilizes hop-by-hop transfer of reliable delivery responsibility, shares many features in common with a database transaction. By considering custody transfer in this light, we observe that it can cause the creation of duplicate message fragments within the network that ordinarily may pose no significant problem, but can be cause for concern if in-network processing and data fusion are employed. We also extend the DTN architecture with the concept of a transaction abort, and show how it can be used for helping to free network resources being consumed by fragments that remain after completion of a previous message transfer.

DTNLite: A Reliable Data Transfer Architecture for Sensor Networks
We present a network architecture, DTNLite, for reliable message delivery in sensor networks facing problems of high mobility, frequent disconnections and unreliable nodes . It is based on the DTN( Delay Tolerant Networking) architecture and its main features are asynchronous message delivery combined with custody transfer on an overlay network on sensor motes. We present an implementation of t...
متن کاملCustodial Multicast in Delay Tolerant Networks: Challenges and Approaches
Although custodial transmission of multicast bundles would be a desirable capability to have in Delay-Tolerant Networks (DTNs), support for custodial multicast transmission was omitted from the Bundle Protocol Specification because of its complexity. This paper explains the difficulties that arise with respect to supporting custody transfer and retransmission of multicast bundles, and it descri...
متن کاملPerformance Comparison of Unicast Routing Schemes in DTNs
Delay and disruption tolerant network(DTN)s have been proposed to address data communication challenges in network scenarios where an instantaneous end-to-end path between a source and destination may not exist, and the links between nodes may be opportunistic, predictably connectable, or periodically-(dis)connected. In this paper, we focus on comparing the performance of different proposed uni...

In this paper, we address the problem of routing in delay tolerant networks (DTN). In such networks there is no guarantee of finding a complete communication path connecting the source and destination at any time, especially when the destination is not in the same region as the source, which makes traditional routing protocols inefficient in that transmission of the messages between nodes. We p...
متن کاملStorage Usage of Custody Transfer in Delay Tolerant Networks with Intermittent Connectivity
Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs) operate in a environment characterized by intermittently connected links and long, variable latency. End-to-end reliability schemes, such as TCP, perform poorly, or not at all, in this environment. Source node storage becomes a constrained resource when intermittent links have long downtimes or latency to receive acknowledgement from the destination is long. To al...
